Applying for a place in either the public or private kindergartens in Sandefjord is a coordinated process. The application form is of a general nature and covers both types of kindergartens.

The administrator of each kindergarten together with the School and Kindergarten office tel.no. 33 41 66 80 can also be of assistance with the application procedure.
Main admissions deadline
In connection with the child’s transition from kindergarten to school in august, there is a main admissions period for new children to apply where the deadline is the 31st January. No offer of a kindergarten place is made until the deadline expires. This is to ensure that the child’s statutory rights of a place in kindergarten are taken care of.
Offer of a place
An offer of a place in kindergarten will be sent via e-mail directly from the kindergarten. When the offer is confirmed, both the kindergarten and the parents or guardians are bound by the statutes of the kindergarten. If the offer of a place is not accepted, the applicant will then lose their statutory rights to a place in kindergarten.
If the 1st or 2nd choice of kindergarten is accepted, the application will automatically be removed from the waiting list. If, on the other hand, an offer is received from one of the other kindergartens the application will remain on the waiting list for the kindergarten the applicant has as their 1st and 2nd choice.
Application rejections
Applications that are rejected will receive notice of this by the 1st June. This decision can be appealed.
Allocation of a place in kindergarten outside the general admissions period
Both the municipal and private kindergartens have the possibility of offering applicants a place in kindergarten should they have places available. This type of admission is more random as it is dependant on places becoming available during the kindergarten year.
Please note
Parents or guardians that have already applied for a kindergarten place and are waiting an answer do not need to re-apply, unless they wish to change their application.
Waiting list
Applicants that do not receive an offer of a place in the kindergarten of their 1st or 2nd choice, or in any other kindergarten, will remain on the waiting list of the respective kindergarten. It is not necessary to re-apply unless the information on the application needs to be changed. We would like to remind applicants that it is the last application that is valid.
Payment rates
The maximum price is 2 330 kr. per. month. The kindergarten can charge additional costs for food.
Reduced payment
Parents or guardians with a total household income lower than 250.000 kroner per year can apply for reduced payment rates. The necessary application forms and guidance lines can be obtained from the kindergarten or the School and Kindergarten office.
Sibling discount
Based upon the maximum price of 2 330 kr per month the sibling discount is as follows:
- For the first sibling 30 %, second, third siblings etc 50 % discount.
- The child with the most amount of hours in kindergarten will pay the full rate.
- If the children are at kindergarten the same amount of hours then the oldest child will pay the full rate.
