Sandefjord Education Centre for Adults is a municipal unit which offers primary and lower secondary education for adults, and Norwegian language learning specifically organised for adult learners.
Sandefjord Education Centre for Adults has had approximately 340 participants throughout 2023.
The school is located in Kjellbergveien 33, in the Virik area, and will move into a new building in Sandefjord town centre by fall 2023. The school will continue to offer courses at both locations.
Participants at Sandefjord Education Centre for Adults’s primary and lower-secondary school work towards exams at the lower-secondary level. Subjects taught are Norwegian, English, Mathematics, Social Sciences and Natural Science. Primary and lower secondary school is offered to persons who do not have a lower secondary school diploma, or equivalent, or otherwise have need of further education in one or more subjects in order to gain admission to upper secondary education.
Additionally, the school can offer basic skills training, and special education, when expert assesment determines that the participant is in need of special education.
Moreover, Sandefjord Education Centre for Adults offers assessment of prior experience as a means to gain exemtion from participation in one or more subjects if the participant can demontrate prior experience and knowledge at the same level as, or exceeding, the learning outcomes of the subject as specified by curriculum.
Adults who have the right to primary and lower secondary education may be entitled to special education if they:
Special education can be organised individually or in smaller or larger groups, and will be given by qualified personelle, and the training plan will be prepared in cooperation with the participant.
Sandefjord Education Centre for Adults offers training in Norwegian Language and social studies. The social studies course focuses on Norwgian society, history, laws etc. Adults who do not have the right to Norwegian Language learning can still participate for a term fee. Levels taught include A1 through B2.
Our courses gives participants a basic to intermediary knowlede of Norwegian language and society. Learning outcomes includes being able to communicate, read and write, as well as beig better prepared to meet the requirements of Norwegian working and everyday life. Participation in the course will prepare the participants for the Norwegian language test.
Teaching sessions consist of improving language skills through: reading-, listening-, writing- and conversational exercises. We follow the national curriculum for Norwegian language and social studies for adult immigrants.
Sandefjord Education Centre for Adults also host Norwegian tests, Social studies tests and citizenship tests. You can sign up for these tests through Skills Norway website
Under certain condition one can be excempt from participation in teh Norwegian language or Social studies course. This applies if you can document one of the following:
